Ontario opened Canada's first competitive private-operator iGaming market on April 4, 2022. iGaming Ontario (iGO), a subsidiary of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), now regulates 50+ licensed sportsbook brands — bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, theScore Bet (Penn Entertainment, the only Toronto-headquartered major book), PointsBet Canada, BetRivers, BetVictor, Unibet, and many more.

The structure is unique in Canada. Every other province — BC, Alberta, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Atlantic Canada — runs sports betting through a single provincial-lottery monopoly (PlayNow, Loto-Québec, PROLINE+ everywhere else). An Ontario bettor can shop 20+ operators on the same NHL game; a BC or Quebec bettor is locked to one provincial book. That makes cross-book line-shopping uniquely valuable in Ontario in a way it isn't anywhere else in Canada.
